September on Whidbey Island has that wonderful in-between feeling: still sunny enough for outdoor concerts and street dances, but just crisp enough for cider, harvest fairs, art shows, garden walks, and birding weekends.
This month brings a packed opening weekend in Oak Harbor and Langley, the return of the Soup Box Derby, DjangoFest NW at WICA, the Whidbey Island Cider Festival, Wings Over Whidbey Bird Festival, and plenty of smaller concerts, library programs, farmers markets, and creative community gatherings in between.

Oak Harbor Music Festival
September starts loud, lively, and free with the Oak Harbor Music Festival, running September 4-6 in downtown Oak Harbor. Expect multiple stages, local food and drink, arts and crafts vendors, and a full weekend of music along SE Pioneer Way.
Woodpalooza
Woodpalooza returns to Whidbey Island Center for the Arts with fine woodworking from the Whidbey Island Woodworkers Guild. It is a great early-month stop for furniture, bowls, sculpture, and handmade detail.
Whidbey Women + Art
Whidbey Women + Art returns to Dancing Fish Vineyards from 11 AM-5 PM both days. This benefit art show and sale supports Soroptimist programs for women and girls.
Island Shakespeare Festival Finale
Island Shakespeare Festival continues into early September with remaining performances of Macbeth and Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest, plus a Whidbey Improv / Sound & Fury improvised Shakespeare performance on September 5 at 1 PM.
